Part-time Board member
Joseph William Potter has more than 35 years experience in the field of labour relations, within both the public and private sectors. A federal arbitrator since 1997 and a federal mediator since 1999, Mr. Potter is a member of the Ontario Labour Relations Board and the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service list of Arbitrators.
Mr. Potter holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Carleton University and is the former President of Joseph William Potter Consulting Services Inc., where he served on numerous labour boards and represented employers in collective bargaining and arbitration matters.
A former director of labour relations for the City of Ottawa, he was also the federal government negotiator for the Treasury Board from 1980 to 1988.
Mr. Potter has previous experience at the Public Service Labour Relations Board, having served as both a Board member and Deputy Chairperson from August 1997 to April 2001, and as a Vice-Chairperson from April 2001 to April 2005. He was appointed as a part-time Board member on November 5, 2009 for a period of five years.
